The risen Lord told Mary, to go and tell the disciples what she’d seen. There are many different disciples of the Savior in all walks of life. It is our call to share with them our witness and hear theirs.
There are times in our lives when we hear something about someone else and we exclaim,“I had know idea”.
When we decide to seriously do God’s work this will become a common expression.
You will find out the neighbor who you talk to when they walk their dog past your house has two LDS co-workers with whom they are impressed. You will find out your son’s friend has never prayed before, when you invite him to have family prayer because you’re going to bed and the boys are going to “hang out a little longer”. When you stop in to this same friend’s graduation party you are going to find out that this boy’s uncle is spiritually minded and lately has felt that there is more God wants to tell him. You are going to find out the young man who you helped save seats is a German exchange student who did an extra-credit report on “Mormons” and whose host family who are of the Baptist faith, took him to Salt Lake City to hear the tabernacle choir. You are going to find out the boy sitting alone at school used to live in China, has a YouTube channel about how to build with legos, and really is quite fun to be around. You are going to find out the neighbor you walk with on Wednesdays has friend whose son just died at age 25. You are going to learn that Emma in your school class likes “Daddy daughter dances” just as much as you do. You are going to learn that Sarah who often sits by you as you watch the boys practice soccer about 15 years ago spent a year going to church with a friend.
Best of all, you are going to find out the depth of God’s love for all of his children. He is communicating and bring them along an individualized path in which you can be the answer to their prayers and an instrument in His hands
Youth you can do this too. It starts by inviting people to do what you are already doing. “Some of us are going to get a milk shake do you want to come?” “Hey come sit by us.” “We’re going to check out Carter’s new truck, do you want to come?” “My mom and I are going to go to a movie, do you and your mom want to come?”
You might be thinking, “Sister Loveland, that’s easy for you, but what about for me? How do I do this?” There is much wisdom in the Savior’s admonition. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Talk to people. Ask them questions. Find out about them. President Holland promised, “that something in what they say will always highlight a truth of the gospel about which you can bear testimony and about which you can then offer more.” Preach My Gospel page 185
Last stake conference I talked about God’s battle being fought with words. Today I would invite you again to use your words – stand as a witness at all times – and you’ll find out that what you already know, “that Jesus is the Christ and that your Heavenly Father loves you,” is exactly what those around you want to know too.
