July 8
It is evening. We have just finished a weekend of witnessing about the Lord’s influence in our lives during the last three years as we’ve served in the Arkansas Bentonville mission. It has been an extremely sweet weekend. We have seen about 150 returned missionaries, many family members of missionaries still serving, and friends and family members who’ve been very dear to us over the years. We have tried to stand as a witness. And we hope to be able to continue serving in the kingdom in whatever way the Lord needs us.
Quite honestly, we are acting in faith right now. Faith is trusting God, His commandments, and His enabling power enough to do what He asks even when our natural-man-selves don’t know for sure. We don’t know exactly will happen to us. We need to be home a little longer to be able to gather information so that we can make good decisions. We often think of missionaries still serving, but will not contact them because we know it is another’s time to steer the ship. Instead we are trusting in the principle, “And it came to pass.”
As I sit here I am reminded of a time almost 4 years ago when I sat in the same spot, but instead of setting -, the sun was rising. I had just finished reading a verse that said God will answer our prayers. I had the distinct impression that whatever I prayed for next, the Lord would give me. Knowing this made me ponder what would I could ask that would affect the most amount of people. That morning, Elder Anderson was speaking at our stake conference, and so I settled upon the prayer that the spirit of the apostleship would rest upon our stake. It wasn’t until a year later that I realized a part of the spirit of the apostleship is the opportunity to be a special witness of Jesus Christ.
Not many weeks went by after that prayer, when we found ourselves with the extremely humbling call to serve a full-time mission. During that mission we have had the opportunity to witnesses of His love, His great gospel, and His atoning power. There have been so many moments when we knew He was not only directing our path; but also, helping us with the daily demands of the journey.
And so as the shadows stretch across the lawn, and the scenery I haven’t seen for several years fills my soul, I offer one more testimony.
He lives, and He is concerned with the lives, happiness, and progression of all of His children!
