Three newly arrived missionaries and a boy with blue hair.
In Bentonville it seems to be more of a trend to have crayola colored hair than back in Idaho. Anyway, our next door neighbor has blue hair. As President was leaving to take the missionaries on to “The Square” for some visiting with strangers, A___ stepped out of his house. President asked if when they got back he would be willing to listen to a discussion. A____ agreed.
Later that evening as I helped my son with a paper he was writing, I could hear the elders and A____ talking. Later President explained that A____ had interpreted the invitation as an opportunity to critique the new elder’s presentation. President said the observations were insightful. 1. “Why are you acting so nervous? Your moving leg and your shaking voice tells me you are nervous. I already agreed I’d listen to you. So you shouldn’t be afraid.” 2. “Do you have any personal experiences? What you say is good, but what does this mean to you?” Elder Gast_____ then shared how he and his mother had been very poor and that he had spent his days inside a small empty room wondering if that was all there was to life. He was not happy. Then two sister missionaries knocked on his door and brought the gospel. He then shared that finding out there was a purpose to life, and that he could make choices that led to happiness had made all the difference in his life. “Now that makes me relate to you. You should share your personal experiences.”
I don’t know what will happen with A____, but he did mention that his friend had given him a copy of the Book of Mormon that week. Was it a coincidence that a boy with blue hair had come out of his house just when he did? I think not.
