Sometimes the answer is no. A mission president's training ended up being scheduled during the same time as our departing missionaries were going. We tried to talk them into letting us come late to the seminar. The secretary said, "You don't know anything yet, you need this seminar." She was probably right. Then we tried to arrange going home before or after we got back. That would cost thousands of dollars to change tickets. We considered bringing everyone in an extra time and having a meeting on Sunday night. That didn't feel right either. I wanted them to know how much we appreciated their service. Many of them were in leadership when we came and we appreciated their wisdom. I just kept trying to find a solution that felt right. Then one night, I felt impressed that we should go and all would be well with the departing missionaries. Calm came. The Lord had spoken and I knew He had spoken. It always amazes me how easy it is to move forward when you know it is the will of the Lord. As I prepared the agenda for the President Parkhurst, I had the thought that the missionaries should kneel right before they leave for the airport and a blessing should be offered. Elder Smuin called us at our training right before they offered that prayer so that we could be part. For me it was a powerful experience.
